PRESENT CONTINUOUS (I am doing)

Veja este exemplo:

Ann is in her car. She is on her way to work.
She is driving to work.

Isto significa que ela está dirigindo(driving) agora, no momento da fala.
A ação não está terminada.

Am/is/are + ing .... é o Present continuous:

I am = I´m driving
he/she/it is = he´s/she´s/it´s working
we/you/they are = we´re etc.. doing something.

I´m doing something >>> significa que eu estou no meio de uma ação; eu comecei mas ainda não terminei a ação.

Normalmente a ação acontece no momento da fala:

ex:

Please don´t make so much noise. I´m working. (not `I work`)
Where´s Margaret? .... She´s having a bath. (not `she has a bath`)
Let´s go out now. It isn´t rainning any more. (not ´it doesn´t rain´)
(at a party) Hello, Jane. Are you enjoying the party? (not `do you enjoy`)
I´m tired. I´m going to bed now. Goodnight!

Mas, quando usamos o Present continuous, as ações não estão necessariamente acontecendo no momento da fala.
Veja o exemplo:

Tom and Ann are talking in a café. Tom says:

* I´m reading an interesting book at the moment.
* I´ll lend it to you when I´ve finished it.

Tom não está lendo o livro no momento da fala. Ele quer dizer que começou ler um livro mas ainda não terminou. Ele está no meio da leitura do livro.


Outros exemplo:

* Catherine wants to work in Italy, so she is learning Italian. (mas talvez ela não esteja aprendendo no momento da fala)

* Some friends of mine are building their own house. They hope it will be finished before next summer.

Nós usamos o Present continuous para falar de um período próximo do agora:
Ex:
today/ this week/ this evening etc.

(Ann)"You´re working hard today." (not you work hard today)
(Tom) "Yes, I have a lot to do."


Nós também usamos o Present continuous quando falamos sobre mudanças acontecendo atualmente:

Ex:

* The population of the world is rising very fast. (not `rises`)
* Is your English getting better? (not `does your English get better`)
