I ALWAYS DO and I´M ALWAYS DOING

Norlmalmente nós dizemos:

"I always do something" (= I do it every time):

* I always go to work by car. (not `I´m always going`)

Veja o exemplo:

"I´ve lost my key again. I´m always losing things."

Outros exemplos:

* You´re always watching television. You should do something more active.

* John is never satisfied. He´s always complaining.

PRESENT CONTINUOUS (I am doing)

Veja este exemplo:

Ann is in her car. She is on her way to work.
She is driving to work.

Am/is/are + ing .... é o Present continuous:

I am = I´m driving
he/she/it is = he´s/she´s/it´s working
we/you/they are = we´re etc.. doing something.

ex:

Please don´t make so much noise. I´m working. (not `I work`)
Where´s Margaret? .... She´s having a bath. (not `she has a bath`)
Let´s go out now. It isn´t rainning any more. (not ´it doesn´t rain´)
(at a party) Hello, Jane. Are you enjoying the party? (not `do you enjoy`)
I´m tired. I´m going to bed now. Goodnight!

Veja o exemplo:

Tom and Ann are talking in a café. Tom says:

* I´m reading an interesting book at the moment.
* I´ll lend it to you when I´ve finished it.

Outros exemplo:

* Catherine wants to work in Italy, so she is learning Italian.

* Some friends of mine are building their own house. They hope it will be finished before next summer.

Ex:
today/ this week/ this evening etc.

(Ann)"You´re working hard today." (not you work hard today)
(Tom) "Yes, I have a lot to do."

Ex:

* The population of the world is rising very fast. (not `rises`)
* Is your English getting better? (not `does your English get better`)

PRESENT SIMPLE (I DO)

Ex: Nurses look after patients in hospitals.
I usually go away at weekends.
The earth goes round the sun.

Nós usamos do/does para fazer perguntas e sentenças negativas.
ex para perguntas:

do I/we/you/they work?
does he/she/it come?

ex para sentenças negativas:

I/we/you/they don´t work
he/she/it doesn´t come

Ex.
I get up at 8 o´clock every morning
How often do you go to dentist? (not How often are you going to the dentist?)
Ann doesn´t drink tea very often.
In summer John usually plays tennis once or twice a week.

A/AN and THE

Study this example:

In a conversation a man says to his friend:

_I had a sandwich and an apple for lunch.
_The sandwich was very good but the apple wasn´t.

Mas na segunda frase, ele diz "the sandwich" and "the apple", porque agora o ouvinte já sabe a qual "sandwich" and "apple" ele está se referindo

- The sandwich and the apple he had for lunch.

A / AN

ex. a book an apple
a man an old man

Complete the following sentences with A or An

a- It is ......... lovely day.
b- It is ......... old university.
c- He is ............. unusual man.
d- She is ....... old woman
e- He is ....... honest man
f- It is ........ egg
g- It is ....... empty bottle
h- It is ........ hour till lunch
